A Full Build Review - Alice in Wonderland Fairy Tale Book Light

Firstly, can I really review my own product, I must be a MAD HATTER?

Of course! I wouldn’t sell it if it wasn’t good—but let’s be honest, if I told you it was 100% perfect and then it wasn’t, you wouldn’t trust me again, right? Honesty is the best policy, especially in sales.

Unboxing "Alice in Wonderland Fairy Tale Book Light" & First Impressions

Opening the Alice in Wonderland Fairy Tale Book Light is a little bit daunting at first—the number of pieces can be overwhelming! But thankfully, the kit is divided into several separately packaged sections, making it much easier to manage.

While this build does require some space, it’s not excessive. Pro tip: I like to unpackage blocks of similar types onto plates with high edges—this makes sorting through them easier, especially in the early stages.

I love a challenge, and I actually had more fun than I expected with this kit!

The Build: Precision is Key

Unlike some other plastic block kits that allow creative freedom, this one needs to be built exactly as shown—because when the book closes, every millimeter counts! The space inside is super tight, and I even found a few spots where I needed to modify pieces slightly from what was originally shown in the instructions. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely something to be aware of!

Hints & Tips – Lessons Learned

I applied several tricks from my own Plastic Block Building Hints & Tips (Part 4) blog while working on this build:

  • Stickers: A tiny misalignment can throw off the whole aesthetic! Stickers only work well if placed correctly the first time or adjusted carefully before pressing down firmly. Read my blog for the full guide!

  • Tapping pieces into place: At first, I tried snapping longer pieces in by force… and ended up breaking them apart. Frustrating! That’s when I realized tapping works better! I used a wooden spoon (but a small wooden rolling pin also works—just avoid metal, as it can scratch the surface).

  • Strategic Squeezing: Some sections had two secured edges but a gap in the middle that made pressing impossible. I found that instead of forcing the pieces, it was better to carefully squeeze them into place or even pull them apart and reattach them for stability. This method was essential for tricky sections like the book end tower shelf and the plant bridge.

  • Planning Ahead: Planning is a builder’s best friend! At one point, I decided to build several components separately instead of following the step-by-step instructions in order. I peeked ahead and saw no issues with assembling the front cover in advance, which made everything smoother.

The Excitement of the Final Touches

Things really come together when the front cover is finished—you can’t help but feel excited!

A Few Small Challenges

I also found that some rules were made to be broken (especially in the land of plastic blocks!). I came up with a better solution for Alice: I swapped Alice’s position with the top rabbit ears—now she’s on top, and the light is super easy to turn on (see below)

  • Placing Alice: There wasn’t quite enough room for the Alice figure in the original setup. I made a slight modification to fit her in, but it made turning the light on difficult.

  • Light Brightness: Don’t expect a super bright light—it’s low brightness, more for ambiance than actual illumination.

Final Verdict

The Alice in Wonderland Fairy Tale Book Light is a more complex and time-consuming build, but the reward is fantastic! If you love a challenge, you’ll really enjoy this kit.
